Development of new drugs to treat central nervous system disorders

Abstract

As continuous, nonfenestrated vessels with extra features that enable them to tightly control the movement of molecules, ions, and cells between the blood and the central nervous system (CNS), the brain’s tiny capillaries are distinctive morphological and functional units that perform multiple functions, including supplying oxygen and nutrients like glucose, amino acids, and precursors to neurotransmitters. The BBB protects the central nervous system (CNS) against toxins, infections, inflammation, damage, and disease by tightly regulating homeostasis, an essential component for healthy neuronal function. Endothelial cells translocate nutrients, electrolytes, and metabolic waste via different transporters because there are no vascular fenestrae (Daneman & Prat,2015). Endothelial cells express receptors or carriers on both the luminal and abluminal membranes; these molecules actively move down concentration gradients from the arterial lumen to the brain parenchyma. In order to control the exchange of potassium for sodium, the abluminal membrane of the blood-brain barrier contains sodium pumps (Na+, K+-ATPase). Receptors expressed at the abluminal membrane facilitate the clearance of potentially harmful compounds from the brain parenchyma. One such material is amyloid beta, a peptide that is implicated in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease.

Abstract

Nursing is an ever-evolving profession, and one of its defining characteristics is the emphasis on care that nurses place on their patients. According to Watson, the renowned author of Theory of Human Caring, caring is a form of relationship and exchange that is necessary for the provider and receiver of care to enhance and safeguard the patient’s humanity, which in turn impacts the patient’s capacity to recover (Sudarta, I. W., 2015).

Healthcare professionals like nurses play a crucial role in ensuring patients are satisfied with their care. That is why a nurse’s caring actions could be shaped by her attitude towards care. The reason is, it’s easier to exhibit caring behavior and get support from nurses who have a positive reaction to caring, and the opposite is also true. Having a compassionate attitude when providing nursing services is one way for health workers, specifically nurses, to strive for patient happiness.

The Contribution of Radiology Nurses in Addressing Anxiety Among Patients Undergoing Imaging

Abstract

Anxiety among patients is a widespread issue in radiology departments globally, affecting those who are undergoing diagnostic imaging treatments. Patients frequently have heightened anxiety levels when they enter an unfamiliar place and have concerns about the operation and potential repercussions. A wide spectrum of patients encounters anxiety levels during invasive procedures, including X-rays, MRIs, and other routine diagnostic tests. This anxiety can appear in different ways, ranging from slight unease to intense anguish, and can have a negative impact on patient participation, image quality, and overall satisfaction with the healthcare experience (Forshaw et al., 2018).

Identifying and dealing with patient anxiety is crucial in radiology environments, as it not only impacts the patient’s emotional state but can also impact the effectiveness of imaging treatments. Heightened levels of worry can result in patient agitation, elevated heart rate, superficial respiration, and general unease, all of which have the potential to undermine the quality of images and the accuracy of diagnoses. Moreover, increased anxiety can cause a reduction in patient compliance, necessitating additional imaging and extending the overall duration of the procedure.

The role of nursing in treating hypoglycemia in the hospital

Abstract

there is an emergency standing order (ESO) in place for the presentation of hypoglycemia in the clinical setting. According to the policy paper, when patients present with urgent care, the ESO’s job is to direct registered nurses (RNs) to execute specific steps; delaying treatment could put the patient’s health in even greater jeopardy (Ascension St. Vincent’s, 2020). This order set is only available to adult patients. Following treatment, the registered nurse (RN) is required to alert the healthcare provider as soon as feasible. The RN will also need to obtain instructions to support the actions from the protocols while carrying out the directives from the emergency standing procedure (Ascension St. Vincent’s, 2020). Appendix A contains the whole ESO for hypoglycemia.
